Contemporary full calf, raised gilt back, corners of binding with some loss of leather, joints partially split but still holding firmly. Ex-library with a small oval stamp on the title : ''Société des Prêtres de Saint Irénée'', old printed ex-libris on the first pastedown. This is the first scientific text edition of the lives of the early Roman Catholic martyrs. Many entries contain also the Greek transciption of the original text, printed in two colums, next to the Latin translation. This is the first edition, compiled by the French Benedictine monk Theodore Ruinart. .
