The book contains over six hundred superb photographs by more than two hundred photographers. The best works have been selected from the most important Dutch photography collections, including the Nederlands Fotomuseum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum, the Print Room of Leiden University Library and the Amsterdam City Archives.
