With four printed ex-libris on the first paste-down (Bookdealer's label - Thomas Baker of Soho Sq. , an heraldic engraved ex-libris ; '' Verum Atque Decens '' ( Anthony Lee ?) , with manuscript notes of provenance; lot 3/68 John Lee Doctors Bommons (?), lot 397/2 Lord Guildfords Library 5 january 1831. Pope Clemens XI dispatched Mezzabarba in 1720 to China trying to improve the relations between the Jesuits and the Catholic Church with the Chinese Emperor Kang-Hsi ( Rites dispute ). This is the first edition of the account of his legation to China. (See Lust 878). .
