The treaty of Utrecht which ended the ''War of the Spanish Succession 1701-1714'' contained some very adverse trade arrangements for the Southern Low Countries which had changed from Spanish rule to Austrian rule. The very succesfull '' Oostendse Compagnie'' founded in 1723 and which counted in 1725 already for over 50% of Western European tea import was considered by Great-Britain and Holland to be in breach of the treaty. The '' East India company of the Southern Low Countries'' was put on hold by the treaty of Paris in 1727 and finally forbidden in 1731 (treaty of Vienna). .
