Uncut copy, wrapper seriously waterstained, interior is clean, notwithstanding the dustsoiled margins. First major law reform proposal for the young Belgian kingdom which had until now (1834) a criminal law system mainly based on the Code Napoléon and some reforms made during the short period when the Southern Netherlands were re-united with the Netherlands (1815-1830). The document is printed in two columns. The left hand side shows the current article ; on the right hand the proposed new article. 487 Articles are treated. Page 70 contains a rather extensive table with the statistics of the capital punishments pronounced or executed on belgian soil in the period 1793 -1833 with a subdivision according the nature of the crime (12 categories). On the reverse of the table is some information on punishment reduction and mercy measures. Provenance ; with the manuscript ex-libris on the front cover of Jean Thienpont (1774 - 1863). This document was thus almost certainly handed over by the minister Joseph Lebeau (1794 - 1865) to Jean Thienpont.
